The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the proposed well, septic location and alternate site. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any wells, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. Drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. The drainage pattern in general will not be changed by the construction. The test holes placed on the lot indicate sandy gravel. No groundwater or bedrock was found down to 11.5-16.5'. The percolation rate was determined to less than 5 min/in. Test Hole No. 3 absorbed water faster than 1 minute per inch, but the proposed absorption trench is designed and proposed for construction outside the influence of Test Hole No. 3. An application rate of 1.2 gpd/sf was used in the design of the absorption system. We are proposing to place a new 1,000 -gallon septic tank with 2 wide absorption trenches each 5' wide x 20' long x 4' effective depth. The elevation of the distribution line will be 6' below the surface for a total depth of 10'. Soil will be mounded .5' above the trench. A minimum of 3' of fill will be placed over the absorption trench and 4' over the septic tank. The ground surface on the lot slopes moderately in general, between 25-30% to the northwest. A slope waiver request is included with this submittal. The new trenches will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. It will be a minimum of 100' from all wells and surface water, and more than 5' away from the septic tank. The alternate site is located more than 12' away. If the system is constructed as designed, it will have no adverse impact: • On the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. • On existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the fixture. • On reserve space on any lots located in the area. • On drainage patterns in the area. In addition, the surface slopes on the lot vary from 25% to 35%. A waiver is therefore necessary to allow the new absorption trench and alternate site to be constructed within 50' of a break in grade greater than 25%. Both the primary absorption system and alternate site are proposed for construction at 5.5' below the surface. The primary site is located on slopes less than 25%, but the slopes fronting the system are steeper. The alternate site is located on a slope greater than 25%. Fill will be required on the slope fronting the alternate site to prevent the imaginary 25% slope from the edge of the absorption trench from daylighting less than 35' down slope from the trench. No fill is required fronting the primary site. The average depth of the fill is 1'. The accepting soil at the absorption system locations is sand with silt and gravel with percolation rate of 1.5 minute per inch. Little or no migration of effluent is expected.
