Prior to the adequacy test, a 2,003 gallon presoak was performed between 4/20/20-4/21/20. The MT's in the drainfield were dry prior to the test. On 4/22/2002, a total of 898 gallons were added to one of the cleanouts which caused a rise of 0.75" in one MT, a 0.5" rise in another MT, and the other MT's remained dry. After allowing the drainfield to recover for 156 minutes, the MT's were checked and all were dry. Based upon this data, the 2003 drainfield will absorb 600+ gpd and meets the absorption requirements for a COSA. As part of our evaluation of the system, we performed elevation shots of the entire septic system. The following are our findings in regard to the elevations: Elevations for the 2015 septic tank: Invert of FCO invert = 96.51 ST1 liquid level = 96.22 ST2 liquid level = 96.22 Invert of post tank DBL1 = 96.26 Elevations for 2003 bed: Average invert elevation of distribution lines are 96.40 (for CO1, CO2, CO4, COS, & CO6, did not include CO3 in this average since this CO has appeared to have settled) Average elevation of bottom of MT's = 95.90 (average of MT1, MT2, MT3, & MT4 — elevations ranged from 95.75-95.99 = 0.50 feet of effective (average) Elevations for 1985 bed: Average invert elevation of distribution line = 93.54 (CO7 = 93.55 & CO8 = 93.52) Elevation of bottom of MT5 = 93.07 = 0.47 feet of effective 3701 East Tudor Road, Suite 101 * Anchorage, Alaska 99507-1259 Phone: (907) 337-6179 * Fax: (907) 338-3246 * Website: www.garnessengineering.com Page 2 of 2 As can be seen from these elevations, there is gravity flow from the outlet invert of DBL1to the 1985 drainfield; but there is reverse grade to the 2003 bed. Basically there is a 0.14 feet (1.68" difference) reverse grade between the invert elevation of DBL1 (septic tank outlet) to invert elevation (average) of the distribution lines in the 2003 bed (96.26-96.40 = (-)0.14). In order to evaluate the functionality of the septic system, we added water to the foundation cleanout to see if the flow could reach the 2003 drainfield. The following is a description of this procedure: On 4/24/2020, we arrived on property and found the bull run diverter valve in the position that all flow was going to the 1985 drainfield. At 10:50 am, we started introducing water into the FCO and switched the flow on the Bull -Run (BR) diverter valve so that flow was directed to the 2003 bed. There is a CO directly after the BR and we could immediately see water flowing to the 2003 bed. Flow was introduced into the FCO at approximately 6.6 gpm. At 11:20 am, we checked the LL's in the FCO, ST1, ST2, DBL1, & the post BR CO. The FCO was still dry, the LL's in ST1 had risen by 2" in ST1 and 2.5" in ST2 from the level found on 4/21/2020. DBL1 had 2" of liquid in it and the post BR CO had 3" of liquid in it. Based upon a 6.6 gpm flow rate, approximately 200 gallons were added to the FCO and directed to the 2003 drainfield (no flow going to the 1985 drainfield). At 11:40 am, we checked the LL's again in the FCO, ST1, ST2, DBL1, & the post BR CO. The FCO was still dry and LL's in ST1, ST2, DBL1, & the post BR CO remained the same as the 11:20 reading. Based upon a 6.6 gpm flow rate, this equates to an additional 130 gallons (approximate) being introduced into the FCO and directed to the 2003 drainfield (no flow going to the 1985 drainfield). In short, approximately 330 gallons were added the FCO and directed to the 2003 bed in a 50 -minute period. Based upon this assessment, gravity flow can be achieved from the septic tank to the 2003 bed drainfield' however, the septic tank perate approximately 2 inches above the normal operation level. CW 1"64. At 12:20 pm, we checked the LL's in FCO, ST1, ST2, DBL1, & post BR CO. The FCO was still dry and the LL's in ST1 had dropped 1" in ST1 and 0.75" in ST2 from the level found on 4/21/2020. DBL1 had 1.5" of liquid in it and the post BR CO had 1.75" of liquid in it. At this time, we switched the Bull -Run valve so that the flow was directed back to the 1985 drainfield. Within 10 minutes of switching, the liquid levels in the tank and DBL1 dropped to within a 0.25" of where the levels were prior to this testing procedure. DBL1 had a small amount of flow going through it. We also performed an adequacy test on the 1985 drainfield. On 4/27/20, we performed a 1,974 gallon presoak on the 1985 drainfield by adding water to one of the CO's in the drainfield. On 4/28/20, we returned to the property and found the MT to have 0.5" of liquid in it (-5.5" below the invert of the distribution line). A total of 791 gallons of water were added to the northwest CO which caused the liquid level to rise to 5.5" (-0.5" below the invert of the distribution line). The introduction of water was stopped and 240 minutes later, the MT had 4" of standing liquid (1.5" drop) in it. Based upon this data, the 1985 drainfield will absorb 600+ gpd. CLOSING: Based upon our findings, either drainfield can absorb 600 gpd; however, utilization of the 2003 bed requires that the septic tank to operate in a slightly surcharged condition. Given the shallow burial depth, operating the system in a surcharged condition could be problematic during winter months; therefore, the 2003 drainfield should only be used during the summer months or a pump vault (to serve the 2003 drainfield) should be installed. , please contact me. 3701 East Tudor Road, Suite 101 * Anchorage, Alaska 99507-1259 Phone: (907) 337-6179 * Fax: (907) 338-3246 * Website: www.garnessengineering.com 4 ASBUILT 1 HEREBY CERTIFY THAT I HAVE SURVEYED THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY: AND THAT NO E'' HMENTS EXIST 6CC PT AS INDICATED. Box 1201 Eagle River, Alaska 99577 Attention: Judy Rowland Re: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary, Sewer System; Ranchettes Subdivision, Eagle River, Alaska Dear Hr. Stuart: Lot 16D, Eagle River Per your request of September 8, ]978, we conducted a test of the sanitary sewer system on the above described property. Fifteen hundred gallons were pumped from the septic tanK. This.drew down the level in the seepage pit about one foot. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was monitored as 1000 gallons were removed and water was pumped back into the seepage pit to the inlet level. Ail liquid levels were measured below the top of the standpipe and are shown in the following table: Initial Liquid Second Water Third 24-flour Total Reading Removed Reading Added Reading Reading Drop (gallons) ~gallons) 5.20' 1000 8.70' 1000 6.00' 6.40' 0.40' The average specific capacity is 27.4 gallons per inch based on two sets of readings showing 23.8 and 30.9 gallons per inch. After twenty four hours the liquid level was measured again ~t 6.40 feet. It had dropped 0.40 feet or 4.8 inches. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of 132 gallons per day for the surrounding soils. If the 3 bedroom residence on the property is to house 6 people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day. We can therefore conclude that the system is not disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 3 bedroom residence.
