The septic tank was placed and the existing well was constructed. The absorption trench was constructed but not at the design location or under the supervision of a registered engineer and no inspection report or as built documentation was ever completed. We are therefore requesting the permit be renewed for the construction of the septic system to accommodate the home. The original design required construction of the new system based on test holes which cannot be located. In addition, the design did not meet Municipal requirements for placement parallel to the contours of the ground surface. We have redesigned the absorption system based on new test holes and in conformance with Municipal Code. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the existing well and proposed/existing absorption trench along with the alternate site. The septic tank will be exposed and verified suitable for continued use. The existing absorption trench will be utilized as much as possible and verification test holes will be placed every 25' along the alignment of the trench to verify the 6' separation to bedrock. The lot is large and no conflicts exist between the existing well and septic system and wells or septic systems on adjacent lots. Ground surface contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. The drainage pattern will not be changed as a result of this project. The test holes placed on the lot in the area of the absorption trench and alternate site indicate sandy gravel (GW). The percolation rate of the soil was determined to be between 1 and 5 minutes per inch. No groundwater was found during the placement of the test holes and none was noted during the monitoring period or to date. Bedrock was encountered from 8' to 12' below the surface. No bedrock outcroppings were noted however and no bedrock is suspected to daylight within 50' downgrade of the proposed absorption trench. An application rate of 1.2 gallons per day per square foot was used in the design of the absorption system. We are proposing to utilize the existing 1,500 -gallon septic tank and construct a new 100' long by 5' wide by .5' effective depth absorption trench utilizing the existing trench as much as possible to treat and dispose of the effluent generated in the house. The elevation of the distribution line in the absorption trench will be 1.5' below the surface and the total depth will be 2.0'. A minimum of 3' of fill or 2" of insulation and 2' of fill will be placed over the absorption trench and 4' over the septic tank. 309 Lot 1A-3, Marguerite Hills Subdivision May 27, 2015 Page Two The ground surface on the lot in the area of the septic system slopes to the south at steep grades. The new trenches will be constructed parallel with the contours of the slope as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements. A slope waiver is included allowing placement of the trenches less than 50' from slopes greater than 25%. Fill will be required to flatten the slopes down grade from the new trenches. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from all wells and any surface water and 10' the proposed and existing water services in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4. We have located an area with acceptable soils, but bedrock was found at 8' below the surface limiting the depth of the distribution lines. The primary and alternate sites will be approximately 10' from an existing slope greater than 25%. We are therefore applying for a waiver allowing placement of the primary and alternate sites at the location shown. Soils in the area are very good for the treatment and absorption of septic effluent. The majority of absorption will be down and migration will be minimal. The imaginary 25% slope from 2' above the distribution line will daylight at 23' from the edge of the alternate site and more than 50' from the primary site if fill is placed as shown on the attached drawing.
