Shafer: This is in response to your submittal, received in this office on December 13, 1990, in which you requested a waiver for the separation distance between a Class C Public Water System Source Well and a Community Sewer Line and approval for the Class C Public Water System. I have completed my review of the submitted information, discussed the project with departmental staff and have the following comments. Based on the submitted information, it appears that the existing public water system was installed in compliance with the applicable State Regulations at the time of installation. In addition it appears that current requirements, regulations, and guidelines could be meet with the exception of the separation distance between the existing sewer manhole and the public water system source well and the separation distance between the public water system source well and the community sewer line. uetween sewer The existing separation distance ~ - the manhole and the existing public water system source well meets the minimum =g=z~.lon distance present at the time the well was installed. .... = u~at water ~ appears =ton your submittal =~- the system has not been modlrmed since it was installed. ~ a .... ~=s result, a waiver is not required for 'the separation distance between the sewer manhole and the well. Therefore, the existing ClaSs C Public Water System serving the four bedroom~_=.m.,~=" _'located on the above-referenced property is approved for the concerns of this Department. A final Operation ~'~' "~'~= ~.~t~at~, constituting this approval, is enclosed for the public d~n~.lng water system. With the issuance of the Operation Certificate for the existing public water system, the requested separation distance waiver for the 35 foot separation between the public water system source well and the community sewer line be considered. As a result of my review of the submitted information which includes the fact that water is being withdrawn from below the clayey gravel strata and the sewer line is on top of the clayey gravel strata, the Department has found the information provided to be satisfactory for allowing a waiver in accordance with 18 AAC 72.035 and 18 AAC 80.020 (e), State Wastewater Disposal and Drinking Water Regulations, respectively. The separation distance between the Class C Public Water System Source Well and the Community Sewer Line has been waived from 100 feet (80 feet under the regulations which were in affect during installation) to 35 feet. This waiver will remain valid as long as semi-annual analytical results for Total Coliform Bacteria are submitted to this Department. Any changes to the existing public water system or the discharge volume increases above that of a four bedroom duplex will invalidate this waiver. Due to the monitoring requirements of the waiver, the following Public Water System Identification (PWSID) Number is assigned to this Public Water System, 216863. By copy of this letter, I am informing your clients that the PWSID Number assigned to their public water system will need to be on all analytical data submitted to this Department so that the waiver will remain valid. Thank you for your cooperation with this Department. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Keven K.
