Oswald DOWL Engineers 4040 "B" Street Anchorage, Alaska 99503 Subject: Subsurface Investigation for Suitability of On-Site Sewage Disposal Systems - Russell E. Arnett Property Located Near O'Malley Road at Hide-away Trail Dear Mr. Oswald: Transmitted herein, in accordance with your instructions, are the results of the above referenced investigation as performed by us on November 16 and 17, 1976. The scope of this project is to investigate the site for suitability of on-site sewage disposal systems. Included in this transmittal are: Test Hole Location Sketch Test Hole Logs Standard Explanatory Information Figure 1 Table A Sheets 1-3 The exploration was conducted using a Nodwell mounted Mobile Drill B-50 drill rig with a continuous flight, solid stem auger. The rig is owned and operated by Denali Drilling, Inc. The drilling was supervised, the test holes logged and the percolation tests performed by Mr. O.M. Hatch, Staff Geologist with Alaska Testlab, and Mr. Mike Hewitt, Staff Technician with Alaska Testlab. The test holes were placed at the approximate locations shown on Figure 1. The logs of these test holes are included as Table A of this report. In interpreting the data contained in the logs it would be proved helpful to utilize the standard explanatory information contained in Sheets 1-3 of this report. It should be noted, due to the soil conditions encountered in Test Hole #2, that a second site was drilled, Tes~ Hole #2A, on that lot. The percolation test was performed in Test Hole #2A. Mr. Maurice P. Oswald November 30, 1.976 Page 2 When drilling was completed a 3/4" slotted, PVC pipe was inserted in the hole to aid in determining the free water level. For the percolation test, the test holes were filled with water and left overnight to saturate. On returning the next day, the holes were refilled with water, and the drop in the water level carefully monitored over the next 75 minutes for Test Hole #1 and 60 minutes for Test Holes ~2A, #3 and 94. This procedure is not a standardized percolation test, but we understand that the Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Public Health and Environmental Protection perfers to tests performed in this manner to evaluate a site for proposed on-site sewage system. Using the above text the observed minimum percolation.rates were: Test Hole #1 1.0 min./inch. Test Hole #2A - 7.0 min./inch. Test Hole #3 13.0 min./inch. Test Hole ~4 13.0 min./inch. No water table was observed in Test Hole #2 or in Test Hole #4. The water level was detected at 15 feet in Test Hole #1 and in feet at the interface of the granular soil and the finer grained soil. This is not unusual and should not be interpreted as the water table. It should also be remembered, though, the water table in any given area will fluctuate with seasonal and climatic changes. We hope this report meets your present needs. If we can be of further service, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, ALASKA TESTLAB Melvin R. Nichols, P.E.
