Box 6-650 Anchorage, AK 99519 Dear Ms. Oswalt: NUNICIP,~ITY OF A~ D~Ft. o~ HEALTH & ENViRONmENTAL pROTECTION 0 8 lgSg RECEIVED As agreed, on May 5 I rechecked the water levels in the monitor tubes of the 4 test holes in the proposed Auriga Subdivision in Bird Creek, formerly Lots 12 & 13 of U.S.S. 3202. Updated copies of the logs are enclosed. The groundwater levels in test holes # 1, 2, and 3, applicable to Lot 2 of Auriga S/D (shown as 13B on the site plan) were between 8 and 11 inches higher than when last monitored in October, 1987. I believe that the measurements just made are essentially the seasonal high water levels. While groundwater on this lot is shallower than ideal, I do not anticipate difficulty in constructing bed type soil absorption systems providing safe and efficient wastewater disposal. The groundwater level in test hole #4, applicable to Lot I of Auriga S/D (shown as 13A on the site plan) is only 1 inch shallower than the measurement in October, 1987, and thus there should be no problem with wide drainfield type systems on this lot. Apropos of your questions regarding reserve area, I still believe that the designated areas are ample for the measured soil ratings, but I have also indicated in red on the copy of the site plan additional areas that could be included in the computations. The present driveway access to both lots is along the proposed utility easement outside the designated reserve areas. A future driveway to lot 2 (13B) may come in from the northwest, but most of it, too, can lie outside the reserve area. Such a driveway would infringe less than 1000 square feet onto the designated reserve area, which still leaves more than the minimum area requirements called for in 15.65.145. Please give me a call if you have any questions. cc: Sally Mead & Cynthia Fellows Sincerely, Ted Moore, P.E. 75" Lo 20' 7,5" u.s.s. ~ eoe CReel'% A ~ SIT~ PLA ~ p ~o PoSt lOS ' MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION 825 L. Department of Health and Human Services From: Ted Moore, Flattop Technical Services Re: Soils Analysis - Lots 12 & 13, U.S.S. 3202 During October, 1987 I conducted a soils investigation regarding the feasibility of constructing on-site water supply and wastewater disposal systems to serve the cabins presently existing on Lots 12 and 13 of U.S.S. 3202, located at Bird Creek. As shown on the enclosed soils logs and site plan, four test holes were dug revealing silty gravel with a perc rate of 23 minutes per inch and a stabilized groundwater depth of approximately 6 feet on the southwestern side of the site, and and a clean sand with a stabilized groundwater depth of 12 feet on the northeastern side of the site. Two small unnamed creeks traverse the lots limiting the suitable area for on-site wastewater disposal systems to a low rise in the center portion following a generally east-west direction. A private well had been drilled near one of the cabins, which further reduced the available area for on-site wastewater disposal. In the spring of this year the owners of the cabins decided to proceed with a resubdivision of the lots to separate their holdings without reducing the lot sizes. At their request, Alpine Drilling abandoned the well by filling it with bentonite and concrete, thereby freeing up additional area on the northeast site for future on-site wastewater disposal systems and allowing the lots to be subdivided as undeveloped land. The site plan designates a suitable locations for future private wells to serve the new lots. Residual snow prevented my locating the test hole monitor tubes in April to recheck the static groundwater levels, but this will be done during the seasonally high water table period of May. Reserve areas in excess of the minimums required by the wastewater disposal ordinance based on the soil ratings have been designed on the site plan. Please give me a call at 345-1355 if you have any questions on this analysis.
