Box 196650, Anchorage, Ak 99519-6650 (907) 343-7904 Ref: Proposed Septic Upgrade for Corinne Subdivision; Lot 2 To Whom It May Concern: The subject property is served by a community well and a private septic system. The property owner, Tom Johnson, of Corinne Lot 2 is the manager of the community water system. Mr. Jonson provided us information regarding the new water service lines to adjacent properties that are served by the community water system. The existing septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a crib type drainfield. The crib is in a state of failure and needs to be upgrade. We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon septic tank and a 5 -wide trench type drainfield be installed. A test holes was excavated on the property and the drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. Since the original approval fro the system was only for 3 bedrooms and the house is currently a 4 bedroom residence, an alternate site is required to be shown. We have provided an alternate site on the site plan and design drawings that will require the use of an MOA approved advanced wastewater system. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached design drawing the topography below the drainfield is relatively flat. The drainfield is to be installed at or near the base of a steep slope and there is a slope downhill from the drainfield that is greater than 25%. The drainfield will be installed 50 feet from this slope. In short, there are no slope concerns. 5. LOT LINE WAIVER REQUEST: We request that your department issue a 5 -foot lot line waiver from the south property line to the proposed drainfield and alternate site. The neighboring property water line runs near the south property line for Lot 2, but it is believed to be over 10+ feet from the lot line. I have completed my review of the submitted information, this office's written and computer files on the existing public water system and have the following comments. WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEM The submitted information it appears that the wastewater disposal system was installed substantially in accordance with State regulations and guidelines at the time. The result of the adequacy test also verifies that on the day the adequacy test was performed the wastewater disposal system was accepting the necessary flows. Therefore, the wastewater disposal system is approved for the concerns of this Department. The enclosed signed Approval of On - Site Residential Water and Sewer Systems, constituting this approval, is enclosed for the existing wastewater disposal system. DRINKING WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM The three bedroom single family residence is connected to Maranatha Water Utilities, Inc., Class A Public Water System (PWSID Number 216198). The soils log prepared by Dr. Reid on February 2, 1981 was performed at the same relative ground elevation as where the existing crib is situated. The soils log indicates that water was encountered at a depth of 13 feet below ground surface. The bottom of the crib was measured to be eight feet below the ground surface, and therefore, a separation of five feet exists between the bottom of the crib and the ground water. You had indicated concerns as to a seasonal variation in the ground water table. Seasonal variation in the ground water table is highly unlikely due to the slop- ing terrain that surrounds the septic system area. Enclosed is a topo map of Lot 2 which indicates relative elevations of the lot for your review. It is hoped that this additional information is adequate to proceed with the issu- ing of the Health Authority Approval for the referenced lot. Street Anchorage, Alaska 99501 RE: Health Authority Approval for Lot 2 Corrine Subdivision, SW4,NWk NEk,NEk, Section 30, R1W,T15N Dear Sirs: Enclosed are the Certificate of Inspection for Health Authority Approval of On -Site Sewer and Water Facility and checklists forms for the referenced lot for your re- view and approval. Also, enclosed are the well logs, verification of septic tank pumping, water sample analysis, and pertinent data related to the referenced lot which were found while researching your files. Our field investigation resulted in the following: WATER SYSTEM: The existing well is shared with the adjoining lot (Lot 1 Corrine Subdivision) which is classified as a Type C source. Approval of this source was granted through your office on April 14, 1981. (See attached data) The source was test pumped on August 30, 1986 for four hours which yielded approxi- mately 0.75 gpm. The source serves a total of six bedrooms for the two housing units and therefore, considered marginal. The source is pumped into a 500 gallon above- ground storage tank which is considered adequate to meet the instantaneous demand requirement of both housing units. The existing water system is adequate to serve both lots. ON-SITE SEWER SYSTEM: An adequacy test was performed on the existing 1000 gallon steel septic tank with pit system on Augustl"5, 1986 Water was injected directly into the pit at a rate of 20 gpm for a total of 500 gallons. This resulted in a total rise of seven inches of the existing liquid level of the pit. Within eight hours the liquid subsided to the original level. The existing septic system is therefore considered adequate for this three bedroom housing unit.
