HICKEL, GOVERNOR Mr. Gregory L. Magee, P.E. ASCG, Inc. 301 Arctic Slope Ave. Anchorage, AK 99501 Subject: Lots 4, Block 1 Hamilton Estates Subdivision Anchorage, AK - ADEC Project #9321-DWW-023, Review Dear Mr. Magee: This is in response to your firm's submittals, received in this office on September 24 and October 9, 1992, which included design calculations for a wastewater disposal system serving a four bedroom duplex located on the above referenced property. I have completed my review of the submitted information and have the following comments: Wastewater Disposal System Based on the intended use of the dwelling unit (4 bedroom duplex) and your assumption of the subsurface soil conditions, as detailed in the submitted data, it appears that the proposed wastewater disposal system (soil absorption system is adequately sized, 1000 square feet of new absorption area) as noted in your plans. Therefore, subject to the following requirements, the construction plans are approved for the concerns of this Department, in accordance with the provisions of 18 AAC 72, Wastewater Regulations. The installation of the wastewater disposal system will need to be monitored by a Professional Engineer (P.E.). Complete as-built drawings of the Wastewater Disposal System will need to be submitted to this office under the stamp of a P.E. The submitted as-built drawings will need to verify soils, watertable and impermeable strater separation. Gregory L. Magee, P.E. 3. 2 October 9, 1992 Based on the State Wastewater Disposal guidelines the effective depth of the proposed deep trench soil absorption system is five and a half (5.5) feet instead of proposed the six (6) feet. As a result, please ensure that the total length of the soil absorption system is increased to 91 feet. This change can be verified on the requested as-built drawings. Monitoring tubes will need to be installed at both ends of the trench. This change can be verified on the requested as-built drawings. T, ,,o approval does not imply the granting of additional authorizations, nor obligate any state, federal, or local regulatory body to grant required authorizations. Thank you for your cooperation with this Department. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, ./1 Keven K. The septic tank was pmnped prior to the performance of the test on the seepage pit. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was measured before and after the addition of 1,000 gallons of water. All liquid levels were measured below the top of the standpipe and are shown in the following table: Initial Water Second 24 hour Total Reading Added Reading Reading Drop (gallons) 5.5' 1,000 3.6' 4.7' 1.1' The water level rose 22.8 inches with the addition of 1,000 gallons of water, indicating a capacity of 43.9 gallons per inch. Twenty-four hours later the liquid level was again measured and found to be 4.7 feet. It had dropped 1.1 feet or 13.2 inches. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of 579.5 gallons per day for the surrounding soils. If the four bedroom duplex on the property is to house eight people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 480 gallons per day. We can therefore conclude that the system is disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a four bedroom duplex. We appreciate this opportunity to be of service to you. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this letter or if we can be of additional service to you. Very truly yours, R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. Ernest R.
