The original design called for a maximum excavation depth of 10 feet, which would have resulted in an encroachment on groundwater. We are proposing to revise the design as follows: The design was originally for three (bedrooms), however, the house only has one (1) bedroom. We are proposing to modify the design to two bedrooms. In addition, the original design did not take into consideration the upper gravel soils that clearly will perk faster than 1 minute per inch. We are proposing limit the excavation depth to 7.0 feet, and take into consideration the percolation rate of the gravel soils. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 60 minutes/inch (bottom 2.5 of the trench sidewalls), and <1 minute/inch (upper 2.5 feet of the trench sidewalls). b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/ft2 average. c. Number of Bedrooms: 2 (however, the house only has one (1) bedroom). d. Design Flow: 300 gallons per day2 e. Minimum Absorption Area: 375 fi f. Total Depth: 7.0 feet (max.) g. The existing septic system is undocumented. A test hole was excavated on the southern portion of the lot. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon S.T.E.P. tank be installed outside the 100 foot well radius and also a dual deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an application rate of 0.45 gallons/day/ft2 should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 60 minutes/inch b.
