Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 RE: Hamann; Lot 2B Subject: Permit Request — Design Narrative Dear Mr. Crewdson: The owner of the above referenced lot is proposing a four-bedroom single-family residence. We are requesting a plan review and a permit to install a well and septic system to serve the proposed development. Soils See the attached logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. Topography The area around the septic field is basically flat with drainage to the southwest. Drain Field Design The dwelling proposed is a four-bedroom, with an estimated daily wastewater flow rate of 600 gallons per day. The wastewater application rate from the perk test is 0.8 gal/day/sft. The required absorption area is 750 square feet. Proposed is a wide drain field (five wide) with 48 -inches of gravel and a length of 150 feet. The reduction factor for a wide drain field with 48 -inches below the pipe is 0.7, therefore the constructed length drain field will be 75 feet. We are proposing a 1500 -gallon septic tank with a S.T. E. P. Enclosed are drawings of the proposed system. Surrounding Properties There are no water wells within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. This inspection revealed an arsenic concentration of 20.2 micrograms per liter (ug/L) for the property's well water sample. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10.0 ug/L for public drinking water systems. While private wells are not subject to this regulation, EPA standards are based on existing health information and can therefore be used to gauge the relative quality of water from private wells.
