We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the construction of a new well and septic system to serve the new home. No conflicts exist with adjacent septic systems or wells and the proposed septic system and well on this lot. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the proposed well, septic system and alternate site. The current drainage pattern is identified on the Site Plan. The drainage pattern will be maintained after development of this lot is complete. Test holes recently placed on the lot indicated silty gravel with minor amounts of sand in the area of the absorption trench and alternate site. The accepting soils were tested and found to have a percolation rate of between 1 and 3 minutes per inch The system is designed with an application rate of 1.2 GPD/SF. Groundwater was found in the test holes during placement at 10' below the surface and was monitored during the ensuing period at 10'. Our design includes the placement of a new 1,500 -gallon septic tank along with a 63' long and by 5' wide x 4' effective depth absorption trench to collect and treat the sewage generated in the house. The bottom of the trench will be 5' below the surface. The distribution pipe will be 1' below the surface. A minimum of 3' of cover will be placed atop the trench and a minimum of 4' of cover will be placed atop the new septic tank. The ground surface on the lot slopes at varying grades from north to south as shown on the Site Plan with steeper slopes near the south end of the lot. The absorption trench will be constructed parallel with the slope of the ground surface as much as possible in Lot 9, Autumn Ridge Subdivision May 4, 2005 Page Two conformance with Municipal requirements. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from the well proposed for the lot and on adjacent lots. It will also be constructed a minimum of 100' from any surface water in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained. Sincerely, „ n Michael E. Anderson, P.E. BOX 240773 ANCHORAGE, AK 99524 522-7773 522-6779 (FAX) MEMO DATE: 5121/2005 TO: Joe Goodall WITH: MoA/OnSite Water and Wastewater FROM: Mike Anderson SUBJECT: Lot 9, Autumn Ridge Subdivision Septic System Construction Permit We recently checked the monitor tube for Test Hole No.. 60 on Lot 9 and found what appeared to be ice at the bottom to be frost. The tube has been filled with gravel and silt to the level just below the frost level. No water was found below the ice/frost layer. Historical data collected during the subdivision phase of the Autumn Ridge project indicated the groundwater level was 9.5' below the surface on May 11, 2001. This would have been the high water level of the year. We therefore believe the absorption trench as currently designed will provide the required 4' separation from groundwater as the total depth is 5'. Test Hole No. 56, which is directly east of Test Hole No. 60 had groundwater at 12.1' on May 11, 2001. Test Hole No. 57 remained dry year around. Attached is a letter to Jim Cross, P.E. dated May 16, 2001, which confirms the groundwater level readings. Please let me know if you have additional questions. May 16, 2001 Municipality of Anchorage Building Safety Division On -Site Water and Wastewater Program 4700 S. Bragaw Street Anchorage, AK 99507 Attention: Jim Cross, P.E. Subject: Autumn Ridge Subdivision S-10707 Dear Jim: We recently completed the groundwater monitoring on the proposed Autumn Ridge Subdivision. The monitoring was completed on May 11, which is normally the period when groundwater is at or near its highest level. The majority of the test holes were dry with only 16 out of 77 showing signs of water. The highest level was noted in Test Hole No. 52 at 4.7' below the surface. This is also the most southernmost of the test holes and the closest to the wetlands. Test Hole No. 54 had groundwater at 5.8' and Test Hole No. 43 at 6.5'. The remainder of the test holes indicated water at depths greater than 7. The water levels encountered will not impact the fact that septic systems can be placed on the lots. In areas around Test Hole Nos. 43, 52, and 54 bed systems or shallow 5' wide trenches will probably be required. Topography on these lots is such that gravity flow can be easily achieved. We are confident therefore that all of the lots in the proposed subdivision will support a minimum of 1 primary and 2 alternate septic systems and recommend that the lot configuration be approved.
