Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Re: Lot 4 Arveson Subd. To Whom it may concern: This is a request for a new well and septic permit for the above residence. The owner is building a new single family home this spring. The perc was completed in the rear of the lot with a 4 foot elevation change along the west property line. The previous owner had filled the lot and constructed a wood retaining wall for a parking area. The soils consisted of two feet of gravel fill covering 2 feet of organic material then clean sand and gravel. A total depth of 17 feet were excavated with no water observed during excavation or after the May monitoring period. The perc was 1 minute per inch with over 50 percent clean sand. The new trench will be a 5 wide with 4 feet effective and 50 length, excavated below the organics and the bottom of the retaining wall, therefore the 50 foot set back is not required. All the ground slopes to the south as the plan shows. This new system will not affect the future development of the neighboring properties or shadow out any neighboring septic replacement areas due to the new well radius. The assessment of the condition of the well and septic applies only to the conditions as of the day tested. The flow and absorption rates may change due to subsurface conditions that may not be observed from the surface, changes inland use, local soil characteristics, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year and the water usage of the family being served by the system. The operational life of all well and septic systems are subject to these various and dynamic characteristics and are outside the control of the evaluator of the well and septic system. Therefore, KND can not give any estimate of how long a system will function satisfactory for current or future occupants or can KND guarantee that no unseen encroachments, deficiencies or discrepancies exist.
