Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Well and Septic Design for Lot 6, Block 7, Riverview Estates Subdivision To whom it may concern: The proposed 2 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic system. Test holes were excavated on the property in the area of the proposed septic system. The proposed septic system for the primary site will be designed around the 30 foot radius of TH#1 and the alternate site will be designed around the 30 foot radius of TH#2 and will require a im~ovative bottomless intermittent sand filter (ISF) system. We are proposing that a i250 gallon S.T.E.P. tank and a five foot wide drainfield be installed. We are also proposing that the well be drilled in the southwest comer of the property. Comments regarding the proposed septic design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a GM/SM material with large cobbles/boulders to a depth of 12 feet in TH#1 and to a depth of 8.0 feet in TH#2 (bottom of test holes). Groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the test holes at 10 feet in TH#1 and at 6 feet in TH#2. The monitoring tubes were checked seven days later and found water to be at 11.5 feet in TH#1 and at 4 feet in TH#2. Also the monitoring tubes were checked again on 5/17/2000 and found water to be at 9.5 feet in TH#1 and at 4.9 feet in TH#2.. A percolation test for TH#1 was performed between the depth of 6.0 feet to 6.5 feet which had a percolation rate of <1 minute/inch. A percolation test for TH#2 was performed between the depth of 2.0 feet to 2.5 feet which also had a percolation rate of <1 minute/inch. It is our opinion that the insitu soils 2 should act as a sand filter and that a application rate of 1.0 gallons/day/ft should apply. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: <1 minutes/inch b. Minimum Length: 42 feet long j Effective absorption area = 300 I22 3. SURFACE WATERS: There is some slight depressions which have ponding water standing in them. All ponded areas within 100 feet of the proposed septic system will be filled in and/or graded to have positive drainage. There is also a surface water drainage ditch that run along the southwest property line and gradually flows in on the property. The I00 foot setback will be flagged prior to the installation. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topographical site plan, the trench is to be installed on the top of a knoll. There is a slope that exceeds 25 percent approximately 35 to 40 feet north of the proposed drainfield. The property is heavily vegetated. We request that a 35 feet waiver from the proposed drainfield to the slope that exceeds 25 percent. All precautions will be taken during construction to insure that all separation d/stances will be met. 5. LOT LINE WAIVER AND SEPTIC SYSTEM EASEMENT: The property owner owns both the reference property and the property directly east (Lot 7, Block 7, Riverview Est.). Attached is a copy of the ingress/egress easement for the proposed primary and alternate site for the septic system. We request that a 0 foot lot line waiver be granted. Date [ ( Engineers Comments: In conducting an adequacy test, I attempt to provide a thorough, conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with MOA DSD Guidelines & Regulations. The reported results describe the performance of the system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on the local soil condition, ground water levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of this system. All systems eventually fail and satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments.
